Top Three Reasons Biz Opp Seekers Fail

Michael Cole Posted on September 20, 2010 by Michael ColeJuly 5, 2015

It seems like a no brainer, if you look for something long enough, hard enough, and consistently enough you should find it, right?

Think about a dog chasing it’s tail, ’round and ’round. It’s sort of funny to watch, and kind of sad at the same time.

The dog has two problems, it may never reach it’s goal. All of that effort but never quite getting there.

Or even worse, it catches it’s tail and it ends up with a mouth full of, well you know what happens underneath a dog’s tail.

Why is a dog chasing it’s tail like an Opportunity Seeker?

I guess it’s not the best analogy, and the dog has the advantage, it can see it’s goal, only inches away. It can smell it, although why it would want to is any-one’s guess.

As it closes in, victory within it’s grasp, it thinks this time will be different, it’ll get something better than the last time, not the searing pain of sharp teeth closing on it’s tail. Stupid dog.

Reason #3   Next Big Thing (NBT) Syndrome

Opportunity seekers are always looking for the next flashy system to try, after all, they’ve been using the last gizmo for almost a week now and nothing’s happened yet.

Opportunity seekers read between the lines in sales pages, they see how much money “Guru X” made in only a week, never noticing that they never quite say how many weeks or months it took to get to the magic week.

They don’t take the time to really dig in and make it work. As soon as they see the next killer sales page with all of those awesome screen shots they’re off and running for it.

This time is different, this time it will work. Right Fido?

Reason #2  Always Changing Tactics

Now while it may be necessary to change tactics when you’re sure they aren’t working, you need to stay with the same one long enough to know, and a week or two isn’t time enough.

The only consistent thing in an opportunity seekers  game plan is change. Because it didn’t work instantly it must not work at all.

Just like with their “systems” they don’t give it time to work.

But it’s not all their fault, they are victims of the biggest reason of all.

Reason #1  The Gurus Don’t Want You to Succeed!

If you become successful you won’t need the gurus any more and that will cut into their cash flow, from your wallet to theirs.

Sad but true, there are “Gurus” out there that do one thing and one thing only. And they are really good at it.

They sell NBT, and they do it well.

They take something and redo it, re-purpose it, and repackage it.

It’s all brand new, bright and shiny. And it worked great, two or three years ago. Look at how old some of the screen shots are. Sure, you can’t see the year, but a lot of “new” systems have the older Clickbank screen shots. Hmm.

Hire an expert Copywriter, get a new sales page or re-use the old one, it worked the first time or two, right?

And they have opportunity seekers lining up like lambs to the slaughter, money in hand. Please cheat me again.

So just how do you get out of this expertly laid trap, or avoid it altogether?

You make a Plan, and stick to it for two or three months or longer if necessary to make it work or to be absolutely sure it’s not the right Plan for you and your business.

Change your mindset from Opportunity Seeker to Strategic Thinker.

Take the time you need to clearly map out your actions, and the results you expect from them.

Set a time frame for when you need to reevaluate your plan and stick to it.

Stay consistent, stay focused, and stay out of the opportunity seeking trap.
