The Art Of Blog Commenting

Welcome back, if you like what you see here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Every well-known, seasoned blogger at some point was a total newbie, didn’t know what a keyword was or how to post a link.

When you want to do something new you need to learn new skills. You do something you probably hated to do in school, study.

You grow and reinvent yourself until you have built your very first blog. You’ve done your research and decided whether to get a free blog or to self host your own blog. You’ve conquered your fear of writing.

Now that you have created your blog, found your voice, and have something to share, how do you become known?

Blog Commenting

One very good way to get exposure for your new blog is to comment on other, more established blogs in your niche. Not just any comment will work. Writing “good post” or “I agree” isn’t a comment, it’s spam.

For blog commenting to be effective you need to actually read the post. After reading the post, if you have something of value to add, write a comment.

How does this get exposure for your blog? Simple, when you leave a comment you are asked for three things.

  1. Your name.
  2. Your e-mail.
  3. Your website.

If your comment has good valuealong the lines of the post some of that blog’s readers will click on the link to your blog. Instant Traffic!

That is why you need to write good quality comments, to gain the interest of that blogs readers or even the owner.

Gravatars

To be even more effective you need to have your picture associated with your comment.

To do this go to Gravatar.com and get a free account. Once you have your account you can link your picture to your email address so that any time you make a comment using that email your picture will automatically show up.

Find a few blogs in your niche and start giving valuable comments and your traffic will increase. Better still, reading the posts and comments will engage your creative process to write more posts for your blog.

  • Thanks Martin, I try to give a hand up to anyone that wants it. If you are going to use Comment Marketing you might want to go to Gravatar.com. There you can set up a picture that will show when you post a comment. People like to know that they are dealing with a person, not a computer program or faceless company. Talk Soon, Michael
