Ana Hoffman is starting a blog meme, yeah, I didn't know what one was either. Click the link, it's a pretty cool idea.
Basically if a blogger wants to play all you have to do is write a post ,and link it to Ana's, about how blogging kick started your business success. For me it was a two part-er.
First off it broke me out of the 'Paralysis of Analysis" I stopped trying to figure it all out before I got started.
I started doing, wrong at first and maybe still in parts. But that was a good thing, I learned from my mistakes, then proceeded to make new and different ones.
More practice, more fine tuning.
Very good thing, the Internet marketing world is changing, fast. Once again. Or is it always?
What brought people in droves last year is not nearly as effective. Why?
Because when every one is doing and talking about the same thing people get bored with it. It becomes less effective.
Attraction Marketing? You're the tenth person today trying to tell me about that, yawn.
Let's face it, ALL marketing is attraction marketing, you're trying to attract business.
The attraction marketing wave simply informed people that in order to stand out you need to put yourself into your business. Promote yourself before you bring up your opportunity.
Whole systems were built to teach people to Brand themselves so they could stand out from the crowd and prosper.
What they were doing in reality was teaching you to tattoo their name on your forehead as your tried to build your brand.
"Get out the tar and feathers, this guy is dissing Attraction Marketing. The system I'm using works just fine."
For now, what about in six months?
Now is the time to look for the next trend, the next wave to send your business over the top.
In short, I learned how to stay current, and why it is so very important.
Second, and it's going to sound like I'm contradicting myself here, Name Recognition.
Unless your name is "John Smith" there's a good chance your name isn't a keyword.
Mine is, after writing a few articles and blog posts I checked to see where I ranked for my name.
Silence, not even a cricket. Not even after 40 pages.
There's a pro wrestler turned announcer, an actor, remember "The Mod Squad" TV series? A psychologist, a couple of singers, a guy that fixes obscure musical instruments. A dead guy from Michigan. Oh no, I live in Michigan!
There is even a Michael Cole Bank in Ann Arbor, maybe I should make a withdrawal? Did it belong to the dead one? Can I claim it?
I could have done what a blogger I used to follow did, use a nickname. There was too much competition for her given name so she changed it.
The post where she talked about it was the last post of her's I read. She sold out, she didn't believe in herself, why should I?
I kept at it, kept writing.
Recently I've been going from page 4 to 5 and back again.
Until today!
Today, thanks to a comment I made on Twila Jacobs blog, I'm on page one for my name, for the first time. But only for my social circle, for now.
Thanks Twila!!

Welcome to my blog meme, Michael.
I must say you’ve done a fabulous job with it. Your personal experiences is what counts the most when it comes down to showing someone why blogging is so important.
You can throw numbers at them all you want, “proving” that they need to start a blog, but until people like you and me share their personal victories, it definitely makes it worthwhile.
All you need to do now is tag more people with the meme and have them link to your blog and, hopefully, even mine:).
Warmly,
Ana Hoffman

Hi Ana,
Thanks, although I’m not sure how it will work, I’ll take it on faith. At the very least it gave me a post. Haha.
I don’t trust numbers, they’re too easy to make up or copy. And when everyone is jumping up and down waving numbers at you…
You have to share where you came from, and how.
It’s like this, You have one red dot in a group of white dots, it’s easy to spot. When you have a few reds, some orange, a blue, green, and on it’s, “I’m so confused” all over again.
Gotta find new and better ways to standout, Gotta be yourself.

Becoming successful as a blogger isn’t all that difficult in reality. I think a lot of people give up just before their blog takes off.
You mentioned that one should post 4-5 times per week. Personally i have had more success when posting 1 article per day. At the bare minimum i like to post 5 articles a week.

Hi Peter,
Welcome to my blog.
You are right, consistency is the main key to blogging and an article a day would be best.
Too many people do give up too soon, I’ve read elsewhere that it takes about 100 posts to start showing results. At just over 50 posts here I would beg to differ.

I’m crazy about your writing style Mike!
Really lively, humorous & fun…good stuff.
I like the thought of Ana’s meme – I just need to get off my butt & do it!
I think you may have just inspired me, or did I do that to myself?
Anyway, great post – keep them coming.
Stay inspired

Hey Michael,
I think you did it yourself, maybe with a little nudge frmo me is all.
It has to come from within or it won’t last, or be very good.
I have a writing style? If you only knew.

Hi Michael,
I agree with the other Michael one comment above me that your writing style is amazing. How you outline yourself climbing to the top of Google, pretty cool. And the how-to is not rocket science: Getting started somewhere and then, dedication and work, what else ?
Take care

Hi Oliver,
The hardest part was figuring out who to listen to. And I’m sorry to say I missed out for several months before I understood the incredible power of Daegan Smith’s soft spoken style.
His message finally got through the noise and I haven’t looked back since.
I find it amazing that you and Michael think I have a writing style. I fly by the seat of my pants, shorts this time of year, and write from the heart. Sometimes until my eyes water.

Nice article Michael – some great points. Having an authentic voice -red dot- is the key to personal branding- so many people have cloned websites, blogs etc and get lost in the noise. Re google: a lot of people are now doing long search keywords eg: “Michael Cole Blogging” will find you pretty quick by those interested. Post a youtube vid of your cat doing something typical of a cat and you’ll get thousands of views but unless your biz relates to cats not much currency in that traffic!
Looking forward to your updates
Cheers Kiaran from currently sunny Perth!

Hi Kiaran,
Welcome.
I haven’t done much with long tailed keywords yet, at least not on purpose. I haven’t actually used my name as a keyword either, just letting it happen one post or article at a time.
That way when I present my main opp to a prospect they can see I’m here, been here a while, and I might even know what I’m talking about.

Hey Michael
The reasons people buy from someone and not from someone else has not changed much since people traded with each other. The trends are not “attractive marketing” rather the trends are the new ad spaces that a created.
I can really relate to your story. When I first registered my website my name “Peter Fuller” was quite popular in the search engines for everyone with that name but me. I decided to brand “Peter Fuller MBA” because my only purpose was to allow old friends to find me online.
Thanks for the story and I agree with others here, you have a compelling writing style.

Hey Peter,
Thanks for stopping by. I just did a quick search and see what you mean. It can be a little irritating, all those imposters using your name LOL.
Great idea how to let old friends find you. I’ve been looking for some old friends, not a lot of luck though.
I didn’t know ComLuv was having a famous bloggers contest, I’ll have to check it out, along with your post.

Hi Mavis,
Welcome.
What I like best about the blog meme is you have to take a candid look inside yourself, your blog, your business, and best of all your definition of success.
