Strange title, huh? I mean why would anyone not want their blog read? I want my blog read, I’ll bet you want yours read also.
Running a blog takes time and effort, so why do I keep seeing these same mistakes over and over?
These are the top 3 things that will stop me from reading a post, no matter how good the content may be.
Written Like A Text Book
I’ll be doing a Google search and find a post that sounds really good, only to find the author is trying to impress his English teacher.
The sentence structure is perfect, the grammar impeccable, but yawn, it makes for really dry reading. The kind of stuff we had to read in school, I don’t want to read it now.
People want to be entertained, put a little life in your post. Inform and entertain, or your readers will find someone who will.
Displaying An Awesome Vocabulary
Write like you’re talking to a friend, you are trying to make friends On-line, right?
When you’re telling a funny story about what happened to you yesterday do you say, “Whilst I was strolling down the Parkway on the morrow…” or “Hey, I was walking to the store yesterday and…”?
Besides, when writing words you don’t normally use in conversation you can get the context wrong, I guess your English teacher won’t be impressed.
Sorry about the vocabulary, please keep reading.
Having a Dark Colored Theme
Have you ever tried to read orange letters on a black background? It makes my head hurt after a while. Enough said.
