Build Six Pack Abs In Four Weeks – Take Two – Day Twenty-Six
Friday February 15, 2013
It’s crunch time, no not the lay on the floor crunches, I don’t do those, not any more. There was a time, not very long ago, when I did hundreds of crunches a day as part of a twenty-minute abs work out and nary a six-pack to be had.
I would do standard crunches, crossed leg oblique crunches, reverse crunches and bicycle crunches to name just a few of the moves I did in a vain attempt to build six-pack abs. Never even got close to six-pack abs, didn’t even significantly flatten my belly, it did however make my abs strong.
Big deal, that wasn’t my goal. Not my main goal at any rate. To be honest I didn’t particularly want six-pack abs, I just wanted to flatten my belly, period.
All the magazines I read, the videos and DVD’s I bought, you name it, I probably tried it, they all omitted one basic fact, it doesn’t matter how strong or well-developed your abs are if they are covered by a layer of fat.
Well, maybe they did talk about it, then an impossible to follow eating plan was required. Who wants to eat egg white omelets for breakfast every freaking day? Who wants to drink grapefruit juice every day, all day long? Who want to eat weird, unpleasant tasting vegetables just because they are alleged to melt away belly fat? Brocoli, squash, Brussel sprouts and spinach are a few of the weird vegetables that are supposed to melt away belly fat, if you can stomach them, go for it. As for me, thank you NO.
Then you have cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, and yogurt as part of the magical fat loss diet, yuk!
Added to that nutritionists are now saying bovine milk is not all that good for Humans, “Milk, it doesn’t really do a body good” unlike what I was taught as a youngster.
If you want to lose weight and build six-pack abs some sacrifices do have to be made, as Arnold Schwarzenegger said all those years ago, “No pain, no gain.”
That being said, the pain does not need to be extreme. You don’t have to work out to the point of failure and you don’t have to forgo the foods you love.
What you have to do is be sensible, don’t stuff yourself on anything, especially high calorie, empty nutrition treats. And exercise moderately, a half-hour to an hour a day is plenty. I seldom work out an hour a day, maybe forty-five minutes a day, tops.
Today all I did was my twenty-two minute core stretching and calisthenics routine and I attempted to do some arched back pull-ups, going to take some work to be able to do those correctly. I also rode my bike 7.5 miles, but I don’t consider that working out, that’s just for fun, and why I like to stay in shape.
I ate an early dinner yesterday, then this morning I decided to a twenty-four hour cleansing fast, I haven’t been following my own advice. I had to take on some of the pain to make the gain.
- 4:30 pm I ate two boneless pork chops, two cups of mixed vegetables and a cup of chicken flavored Rice-a-Roni
One point I should make, fasting can back fire. If you go too long without food your body goes into starvation mode, you can do more on less food so you can build up your fat stores during the lean times.
