Create The Leader In You, Step Two
Have you STARTED to become the leader you were meant to be? Yes, you are meant to be a leader. How do I know? After all we’ve never met. I know because you are here, reading this post and wondering, “Do I have what it takes to be a leader?”
You have started doing what most people never do, you are starting to expand your horizons, boldly going where most fear to tread.
In your quest to become a leader you need information on how to teach what you have painstakingly learned to do.
The problem with looking for information on-line is you find it, LOTS of it. This leads to information overload in nothing flat.
How many unread ebooks are on your hard-drive gathering cyber dust? Here’s what usually happens:
- You get an offer for a free ebook.
- The information offered sounds good for future reference.
- It may not be free next week, so get it NOW.
- To get your free ebook you have to give your email, now you’re on another list.
- 5 to 7 more emails a week to sort through.
All for something you may use in a few weeks or months. Information Overload has turned into Information Avalanche.
Step number two in becoming a leader is this:
Lose the Pack-Rat Mentality
Gathering information that you don’t have time to assimilate is wasting your time and keeping you broke.
Focus on learning one thing at a time and then mastering it. Then learn the next skill and master it. And so on.
It may seem like it is taking forever this way but how far have you gotten jumping willy-nilly from one ebook to the next? Not far, I’ll bet. Two or three weeks progress and then, oh-boy, new flavor of the month.
The time spent on the now forgotten ebook was mostly wasted. You have been working hard but without focus you are going in circles at a hundred mile an hour.
In a nutshell, stop gathering information for future use. If it is something you must have save the email with the link to it. You can always get it later, when you can actually make use of it.
Chances are that ebook will still be free in a year.
In my pack-rat days I gathered my share of ebooks. Funny thing though, when I make time to read one of my “prizes” I find I already know the information, just in a different format.
Go to your documents right now and read one of your ebooks. One of two things will happen.
- You will find you already know the material.
- You learn something new to focus on.
Either way, you win.
Focus on developing your skill set and your inner leader will start to emerge.
