Pushing Past The Pain

Rottweiler Pushing Past The PainIn June I started to take my brother’s Rottweiler, Zeus, on progressively longer walks to battle my developing middle age spread. 50 plus miles a week on my mountain bike just wasn’t enough, it helped but also added to my weight. The muscle I was building outweighed the lard I was burning off.

You want more results, do more things, sound familiar?

I started running with the dog, actually run  a little til winded, walk at a fast pace until I catch my breath then run some more. Zeus loves it, for the first half of our route anyway.

Even having run Track and Cross Country, not literally that’s what the sport is called, I knew it was going to be a battle. Bringing long under used muscles back into play takes time and dedication.

Much to my surprise it was my lower legs that bore the brunt of my running. Not my quads and hamstrings like back in school. Possibly because of the bike riding.

But everyday I can go a little bit farther before the pain sets in, then keep on going with my lower legs burning, pushing at limits I will no longer accept.

What, if anything, does this have to do with Internet Marketing?

Think about it for a minute, older more experienced employees are being pushed out the door in favor of younger, less costly ones.

Looking for work, being told time and again, “Sorry, you’re over qualified.”

Turning to the Internet, searching for a way to adapt a lifetime of knowledge, experience, and skills to a new way of doing business.

In essence going back to school, studying for long hours to learn how to compete in a new environment.

Working to bring their minds back to the day when learning was, well, child’s play. Learning how to learn all over again, forcing their gray cells back to being the memory sponges they once were.

Pushing past the frustration of Information Overload, enduring mind numbing headaches, reaching for the day when learning is once again second nature.

It comes down to this, whether you’re trying to get your mind or body back in shape, you are going to have some pain.

You’re going to have to leave your comfort zone, to push past what you believe to be your limits.

If you get nothing else from these ramblings understand this:

The only limits you have are the ones you accept, the more you push at your limits, the more you will realise you don’t have any.

  • Hey Michael

It all comes down to Pain verses Reward.

If your desires are strong enough then no pain can deter you.

    Hi Peter,

If we want something bad enough we will find or make a way.

  • Haha, Michael, I can so relate. Taking our boxer George for a walk (oh, well, maybe it’s the other way around) does pretty much the same thing. When my husband comes along, we’ll have to take the short route, but I like to walk until those legs really hurt. Only then I know that I’ve got a work out ;-)

We do have to stretch our limits. It’s the only way we will grow.

    Great post!

    Hey Ilka,

Sounds like George would rather take you for a drag, good workout for your arms.

I’m in the middle of a growth spurt right now, it hurts a bit, but not nearly as much if I just sat on my hands.

  • It is unfortunate the most of us settle with our so-called limits. This is the very reason few are successful in this world. We are capable of doing anything we put our minds into, but the only problem is that our mind is also our enemy. If we first learn the nature of our mind, we would then be aware of the imaginary limitations it has set upon us. :-)

    Hi Walter,

Nice to meet you. I forget who said it but, “What can be conceived and believed can be achieved.”

Sounds like you already have a firm grasp of the subject.
