Recently a study at Harvard found that foods with a high bran content and whole grain foods boost your heart health.
While this study was conducted with men, according to researchers similar results were observed in the Women’s Health Study
Dr. Alan J. Flint, Project Director at Harvard School of Public Health and the lead researcher of the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study said “Whole grains as a part of prudent, balanced diet may help promote cardiovascular health.”
Dr. Flint said “Higher intake of whole grains was associated with a lower risk of hypertension in over 31,000 men,”
Samantha Heller, a nutritionist based in Connecticut agreed that whole grains are a vital part of a healthy diet.
“Whole grains have nutrients and antioxidants that are important for good health and they help manage insulin response,” Heller said. “People who eat whole grains seem to have lower incidents of diseases like diabetes,” she said.
With this Study in mind, you may want to start adding a variety of whole grains to your diet. You really have nothing to lose and potentially a lot to gain.
