I don’t watch much TV anymore and the few shows I do watch I record and fast forward through the commercials.
Doesn’t work for The Weather Channel though.
While waiting for my local forecast I’ve seen some very misleading ads about high fructose corn syrup lately.
In one a guy is sitting down to have a bowl of cereal, his brother walks in and says:
“Doesn’t that have High Fructose Corn Syrup in it?”
“Yea, So what?”
“It’s bad for you.”
“Why?”
“Uh, uh…”
The brother can’t think of why off the top of his head.
“It’s made from corn so it has to be good for you.”
By that reasoning Corn Whiskey must be good for you too, sure it is. NOT!
The Food Industry is not the Nutrition Industry.
The Food Industry takes good, wholesome food that Nature intended and “refines” it so that it has about the same nutritional content as the box it comes in.
Take wheat, for example. Is is “refined” and bleached so it has no color, no vitamins, or fiber. Then it is “enriched” to replace the nutrients that were “refined” out.
High Fructose Corn Syrup can only be processed by your liver, while sugar can be converted to energy by every cell in your body.
High Fructose Corn Syrup has been linked to obesity, sugar gives you energy. As long as you don’t over do it. Over eating sugar can still make you fat, watch your intake.
There is some good news, however.
Hunts has recently changed it’s ketchup so that it no longer has High Fructose Corn Syrup in it.
With a food giant like Hunts (owned by ConAgra Foods) leading the way perhaps the rest of the Food Industry will finally realise that the Public is no longer dying to consume their products.
