understand that when they “actually”
have a winning ad, and …

As a result, they never take the last
step that would ensure them passive
residual traffic for months or years at
a time.

First, let me define what a “WINNING!”

Remember this FOREVER.

If you make $0.01 more than you spend
that, my friend …

Is a “WINNING!” ad.

When this happens, you should …

Pump your fist high into the air, scream
at the top of your lungs in victory, and
take yourself out to a nice steak
dinner.

Why all the celebration?

You just created a brand new autopilot,
competition proof, profitable stream of
leads that you can tap into indefinitely
for free.

Most marketers “think” that if they
don’t double or triple their money on a
newsletter ad it’s not worth it.

WRONG! (NOT “WINNING!”)

In fact, if you just change your
perspective to seeing your ads as a

The second you find an ad spot that is
either slightly profitable or even
slightly unprofitable, by doing what I

promise after your first test if you
just go back to that same newsletter and
propose the following “deal” you’ll
always reduce your marketing cost by at

you tell them the ad went “ok” and that
you’d like to run the ad again over the
next 3 to 6 months on a monthly basis,

The way I always do this is I propose
doing a prepay at 80% of the cost of a
one off ad for the next 3 to 6 months.

So, if I have an ad, that cost me $100,
and I make $105 then I go back to the
newsletter publisher and I propose a 3
month run for $240 paid now.

First off, they always say yes to this
deal, because they, just like any other
business, want long term customers and
cash now.

So it’s a total “WIN!” for them.

What this does for you is, over the next
three months you pay $80 per ad so now
that $5 profit is now $25 on a monthly
basis.

Over three months where you would have
made just $15 with a one off ad, now
you’re going to make $75, and …

That new profit is new money you can
take and test new potential ad spots.

This is the EXACT process I’ve used for
years, and you’ll surprise yourself how
quickly you can scale your business with
this little “trick”

Imagine having 30 different deals like
that set up.

You’re getting high quality traffic from
30 different places and once you’ve set
up the deal you don’t do any work to get
all that additional traffic.

Let’s take that one $100 ad example,
multiply that by 30 and you’ve now set

Make no mistake, this ONE singular
mistake is the BIGGEST mistake most new
newsletter marketers make.

It costs them a LOT of money, and I’ve
even made this exact mistake to the tune
of $2,683 on a single ad.

Imagine, making one slight mistake and
having it cost you $2,683.

It sucks, so my goal in today’s lesson
is to make sure you NEVER make this
mistake in your newsletter marketing
efforts.

I call this mistake “Quality Control”
because the truth is, most new
newsletter marketers simple choose the
WRONG newsletters to place their ads in
in the first place.

You get this wrong and you’ve got little
to no chance of creating that 2000+ lead
day yourself.

When I made this mistake I paid $2,683
for a newsletter that was SUPPOSED to go
out to 200,000+ subscribers.

I got all the other steps right (I’ll go
through those in nest few lessons), but
because I got this one step wrong …

On the day this ad went out I generate
all of 2 unique visitors. Me, and the
guy that stole my money.

The mistake I made wasn’t exactly the
same mistake most new newsletter
marketers make but I made it based on
the same root cause.

Most new marketer will judge a
newsletters responsiveness based on one
of two criteria.

- How cheap it is

- What testimonials they see on the
“Advertise With Us” page

Both mistakes are totally
understandable. I mean …

If you’re just getting started you’re
probably looking for bargains, and
you’re basing those bargains on price,
or …

You’re they’re looking for some form of
positive reinforcement before they spend
money, and when they see a bunch of
people praising a newsletter they feel
more confident about their choice.

Makes sense right?

But …

Here’s the REAL deal …

Neither price nor what other people say
about how great any newsletter is will
dictate the success of your ad.

Price I think you get. You get what you
pay for, but testimonials …

Those testimonials could be 12 years old
for all you know. Basing whether or not
you should place an ad on something
another person potentially said 12 years
ago isn’t going guarantee you see the
same results now.

You don’t know what’s happened over the
last 12 years. Maybe the newsletter
publisher was growing his list like
crazy back then, but today he hasn’t put
a new lead on that list in years, but
he’s still charging the same price.

And …

I don’t care how good of a marketer you
are, no marketing magic is going to pull
a response from 12 year old leads.

My point is, if you place an ad with the
cheapest newsletter you can find or the
one with the most testimonials can very
well be the fast path to wasting money.

MANY … MANY … new marketers make
this mistake. Don’t let it be you.

Mistake #2: “Ad Placement Control”

Second only to choosing the wrong
newsletter to place your first ad in,
and almost as detrimental is making the
mistake of placing the WRONG type of ad
in a newsletter.

I’ve tested over 521 individual
newsletters in the home business and
internet marketing space spending well
over $200,000+ of my own hard earned
money, and I’ve tested just about every
“Type” of newsletter ad you can place,
and I can say without hesitation that…

Not all ads are created equal.

You take the exact same newsletter and
you choose ad type A and compare it to
ad type B and ad A can drive well over
10X the traffic of ad B.

Yeah it matters that much “where” in a
newsletter you place an ad.

A real world example ….

I place a $200 ad in a newsletter and at
the same time chose a different location
and chose a cheaper $40 ad.

- Ad A got me 454 clicks – Ad B got 17
clicks

Ad A was more expensive overall, but per
click I paid I pad $0.44 per click, and
for ad B I paid $2.35 per click.

Which ad cost more?

Ad A cost me about 5X less per click
than ad B did.

I’ve ran this exact test MANY times in
MANY different newsletters and it’s
always the same.

Which would you choose – Ad A or Ad B?

Me …

I always choose Ad A.

The mistake that most new newsletter
marketers make is they typically go for
the cheapest ad they can in a newsletter
and never realize that although it might
“cost” less, it’s not cost effective.

And this is a HUGE hinderance to the
success of would be newsletter
marketers, so …

You’re probably wondering …

“Daegan, what type of ad should I place
in a newsletter?”

Good question!

Bluntly … ALWAYS go for the “SOLO AD”.

Pound for pound “Solo Ads” are THE most
cost effective ad you can ever buy in
any publication.

What a solo ad is, it’s an ad that goes
out to a publication alone, without any
other competing noise, so …

It doesn’t matter if the newsletter has
1000 or 1 Million people on it, when you
place a “solo ad” it’s the only thing
every single subscriber on that
newsletter ever sees.

But that’s not the only reason that you
should ALWAY test with solo ads, it’s
because there’s one HUGE difference
between a solo ad and any other type of
ad that you could ever place in a
newsletter that gives you an unfair
advantage over the chumps that don’t
know what I’m telling you.

With “Solo Ads” you control the most
important space in the entire
newsletter.

With “Solo Ads” you control the subject
line of the email, and it’s the subject
line that determines whether or not …

The newsletter ever gets opened.

Think about it …

There are some newsletters you open and
some you don’t.

Why do you open the ones that you do?

It’s because there was something in the
subject line that caught your eye.

Imagine placing an ad in a newsletter
and the newsletter publish chooses the
subject line and that subject is
something horrible like …

“Newsletter #125″

No one’s opening that.

If you’re ever going to spend a dime on
a newsletter ad, take it from your
friend Daegan, control the subject line
and you win.

So, what’s the rule of the day?

ONLY place solo ads.

If you can remember that it will serve
you extremely well over the years.

ad, but if you place the wrong type of a
solo ad, again you’re gonna kill your

days of the month where I have 100+ -
800+ lead swoons all from good old
newsletters.

The first two mistakes we discussed:

- #1: “Quality Control”

Making sure you choose the RIGHT
newsletter makes or breaks the success
of your entire campaign.

Never choose the newsletter with the
most praise or the cheapest one you can
find.

Those are the two sure fire ways to
waste money in your marketing efforts.

Instead, put all newsletters you could
potentially place ads with through a
rigorous quality control process.

Mine is 6 steps, and I never place an ad
without putting the newsletter through
this process.

- #2: “Ad Placement Control”

Where you choose to place your ad in a
newsletter makes a WORLD of difference.

Most marketers choose to place the
cheapest ad that they can, but the truth
is the cheapest newsletter ad is NEVER
the most cost effective.

After $200,000 spent and hundreds of
newsletters tested over the years the
ONLY type of ad that you should ever
test with is a “Solo Ad”

And there are two reason why …

1. With a solo ad your ad goes out to
the entire subscriber base without any
other competition noise. It’s the only
thing the entire subscriber base sees
for that entire mailing.

2. You control the subject line of the
email. The subject line is what dictates
whether or not that email gets opened,
and something you should never lead to
chance.

You place a solo ad and you ensure the
maximum number of people open and see
your email ad, and that brings us to
today’s mistake …

Mistake #3: “Traffic Control”

The add that you create determines how
much traffic you’re going to get once
that email is opened.

Most new marketers make the mistake of
creating and submitting the wrong type
of an ad with a newsletter.

And this mistake cost them a ton of
traffic.

Before I learned what I’m about to share
with you I used to pay copywriters $500
to $750 just to create a single ad for
me, and those ads didn’t even get me as
much traffic as what I’m about to share
with you.

Why is driving maximum traffic from your
newsletter ads important?

It’s simple …

Newsletter marketing is what’s called
“fixed cost” marketing, and what that
means is simply that when you place a
newsletter ad you pay a fixed amount and
no matter what happens with that ad your
money has been spent.

Well, in direct marketing whenever
you’re placing fixed cost ads your ONLY
objective is to drive maximum results,
so to win with newsletter marketing
everything counts.

That’s why I’m sharing all this
information with you …

To make sure you avoid all the of the
costly mistakes that most make. As long

rule that has served me well ever since.

ads are the ONLY way to go.

I went home from that seminar and
decided to test the “advice” I was given
at that seminar instead of having
someone else write an ad for me.

I create one for myself, for the very

It literally took me less than 4 minutes

than twice the traffic as any ad I had
EVER had any copywriter produce for me.

I learned my lesson fast,and so should

by trying to tell your whole life story

Mistake #4: Lead Control

If want maximum lead flow from your
newsletter ads like, for example …

Where, in one ad I generated 9,249
clicks, and 6,155 leads for a total
conversion rate of traffic to lead of
66.55% you’ve to take ONE very important
factor into consideration that many
miss.

Your landing page, i.e. the page you
send traffic to after they click your
link in your solo ad ABSOLUTELY matters.

It matters a whole lot, and …

It’s another one of those places where I
see new marketers drop the ball.

I’ve seen people with ads in great
newsletters, great solo ad copy (the
right placement), and I even clicked the
link (so they’re getting traffic), but
then I get hit with a brick wall …

An absolutely horrible landing page.

Man! That hurts to see.

They were almost there, but they messed
up the last detail.

If you create your landing page
correctly then you WILL get a lot of
leads, and that’s good – here’s why …

Newsletter marketing is what you call
“fixed cost” marketing, so what that
means is you pay for the ad and no
matter what happens you’ve paid.

Our goal then is – the MOST bang for our
buck. It’s ALL about driving maximum
results in your advertising, and lead
getting is THE MOST important part of
this whole equation.

So remember what I told you about your
solo ad copy? Short copy = maximum
traffic.

Same thing holds true for the page that
you send your traffic to after they
click your link.

Make sure your opt in is above the fold
(meaning your visitors can clearly see
it as soon as they get to your site),

Here’s a BONUS TIP that’s worth it’s
weight in gold.

Make sure your landing page is congruent
with your solo ad copy.

If your prospects read one something in
your solo ad and then sees the exact
same thing when they get to your landing
page it flips a switch in their mind
that basically says “I’m in the right
place,” and when your prospects get
feeling ….

It certainly does work, and before we
wend our time together today you’re

get us maximum traffic, and we’ve create
a landing page that sucks in leads like
a Hoover Vacuum, now …

How do profit on all our hard work, and
how do we do it in minimum time?

Well, what doesn’t work is sitting and
waiting for the money pour in.

What also doesn’t is using some canned
autoresponder sequence.

What does work though, after extensive
testing is …

Following up aggressively by email at
least once per day for at least the
first 7 days after you place a
newsletter ad.

My test have show the more you follow in
that golden first 7 day period the
faster you’ll recoup and and earn a
profit on your marketing efforts.
